Rounds 1 & 2
After all of the talking the season was finally upon us and we were greeted at Brands Hatch with inclement weather conditions.
Having had very little time in the car (in fact only 1 test at Croft) Simon felt that he may have a little catching up to do in the first few rounds.
However, in first qualifying he had a re-occurence of the fuel surge problem which held him back during the latter stages of qualifying. However, Shaun and Joe from his new team for 2008, Optimum Motor Sport, worked hard to eradicate the problem. However this left him a rather lowely 16th qualifying position out of 23 runners for both races. He had hoped to qualify in the top 10.
For Round 1 immediately after taking off from the start line he found himeself stuck in 3rd gear with a gear link breakage and had to compete the whole race in third gear. In what was probably the best race of the whole weekend he was able to finish in 12th position and offer his congratulations to his former team mate Deano on his faboulous first race victory. Although disappointed Sean and Joe offered huge encouragement and worked through the night to fix the gearbox which had to be taken out of the car.
For Round 2 he was again 16th position as a result of the fuel problem and enjoyed a fantastic scrap towards the end of the race with Josh Hill and was also able to just hold off Deano, who had spun earlier in the race. In Round 2 he finished in 11th position.
We now eagerly await a trip to Cadwell Park this coming weekend.
